Description “Swimmers Above II”

An aerial view of a sun-bright sea fills the vertical canvas, painted in heavy palette-knife layers of cream, pale-blue, turquoise and white. Small stylized figures sit on yellow and ivory surfboards, scattered across the open water in loose clusters. The lower edge dissolves into a sandy beach where more bathers wade and stand at the surf line, their tiny silhouettes catching warm light. The water is sculpted into thick foam ridges that read more like worked plaster than paint, and a long diagonal break of foam runs across the upper third like a slow wave.

The palette is bright, sunny and tactile: cream, ivory, ice-blue, pale aqua and turquoise on the water, a warm sand wash at the base, with quick yellow surfboards and small flesh-tones giving the figures their pop. Because the foam is sculpted in heavy impasto, the surface itself becomes the picture — closer to relief than to a flat painting. It belongs in calm, optimistic interiors: a coastal apartment, a sunlit primary bedroom, a children's bath, a soft yoga studio.

For placement, the vertical proportion is the practical strength. It hangs beautifully above a freestanding tub, between two windows, on a stairwell, or as a tall accent in a sunlit primary bedroom. In hospitality it sits cleanly in a spa corridor, a wellness lounge, a boutique hotel bath suite, or the quiet side of a poolside lobby. Pair with bleached oak, white linen, terrazzo flooring and a single warm brass picture light.

The canvas is a hand-painted oil and the relief is unmistakable up close. Foam ridges stand more than a centimetre proud of the surface, the surfers sit as small raised tabs of paint, and the sand at the base is dragged smooth in long warm sweeps. A picture light angled from above brings out every shadow line and lets the relief carry across the room.

Hand-painted on canvas, it joins our wider range of hand-painted abstract painting.

Additional Information “Swimmers Above II”

An aerial view of a sun-bright sea fills the vertical canvas, painted in heavy palette-knife layers of cream, pale-blue, turquoise and white. Small stylized figures sit on yellow and ivory surfboards, scattered across the open water in loose clusters.

Visual cues include figure, people, and sea. The palette is anchored by beige, blue, and cream. The composition is vertical.

Best suited for a bathroom, bedroom, and kids’ room. Works well in boutique hotel and hotel.

Pairs naturally with figurative and impasto interiors. A vertical hang reads well above a sideboard or a narrow console.

Most of the surface is given over to beige, blue, cream, white, and yellow. The overall temperature is cool, settling the room into a calm and considered mood.

Each canvas is laid in by one painter from start to finish, in oil on stretched cotton. Layers of oil build up over the underpainting, so the surface carries visible weight and the brushwork stays legible.

The figurative character runs through the underpainting, while the impasto feel emerges in the surface passes. For Swimmers Above II, drying and varnishing follow the traditional oil-painting cycle so the finished surface holds without yellowing. The vertical stretch keys the canvas tighter at the long edges, which is what holds a tall format true on the wall.

Vertical formats sit best on tall, narrow walls: between two windows, framing a doorway, or above a slim hall console. Hang the centre about 145-155 cm above the floor, with at least 30 cm of clear wall on either side.

In a bathroom, Swimmers Above II reads best on the wall you look at first when entering. Step back to roughly twice the canvas height to take Swimmers Above II in — that is the distance the painter worked at.
