Description “Lit Horizon 2”

Layered glazing carries the sky. The artist has worked the cloud mass in successive thin coats of pearl gray, warm beige, and a deeper umber, brushing each glaze wet-into-wet so the edges blur and dissolve. Between coats, the surface has been knocked back with a soft cloth or a near-dry brush, leaving a velvety mid-tone that holds tiny ridges where the bristles dragged. A small impasto cluster of warm white at the heart of the cloud catches actual room light and reads as the light source.

Below the sky, the dark shoreline is the picture's heaviest passage. Burnt umber and slate are stacked in short broken knife strokes, the edges left raised so each stroke holds its own shadow. A few flecks of titanium white sit at the waterline, suggesting wet stones or the lip of a tide. The contrast between the smooth, glazed sky and the chunky, knife-built shore is what gives the picture its tactile range.

The water below mirrors the sky in the language of soft horizontals. A wide soft brush has dragged warm cream, ochre, and a band of pale gold straight down the center of the lower canvas, with thin glazes of slate and brown running between them as long, controlled drips. The reflection is loose enough to feel painted, precise enough to read as still water — and it ties the whole picture together along its vertical axis.

Because the atmosphere is warm and the palette stays muted, this picture lives well in calm rooms — a primary bedroom with linen and oak, a softly lit living room, a dining room with stone and brass, a hallway by a sunlit window. It also belongs in hotel reception walls, boutique inn lobbies, spa-and-wellness rooms, and salon entries where a luminous horizon can sit as a quiet anchor.

Created by hand for collectors, this canvas joins our abstract canvas art line.

Additional Information “Lit Horizon 2”

Layered glazing carries the sky. The artist has worked the cloud mass in successive thin coats of pearl gray, warm beige, and a deeper umber, brushing each glaze wet-into-wet so the edges blur and dissolve.

Visual cues include clouds, sky, and water. The palette is anchored by beige, brown, and gold. The composition is vertical.

Lit Horizon 2 sits well in a bedroom or a dining room. Boutique hotel and hotel settings are also a strong fit.

It pairs with atmospheric and impressionism interiors more naturally than ornate ones. A vertical hang reads well above a sideboard or a narrow console.

Most of the surface is given over to beige, brown, gold, and gray. The palette runs warm; the eye lingers on the deeper notes rather than the highlights.

Oil on stretched canvas, brought up by a single painter in continuous sittings. Edges are softened where the eye should rest and sharpened where it should stop, with tonal value carried through measured passes.

The atmospheric character runs through the underpainting, while the impressionism feel emerges in the surface passes. Lit Horizon 2 is finished with the traditional drying and varnishing cycle; the stretcher is keyed evenly to keep the canvas flat in shipping. The vertical stretch keys the canvas tighter at the long edges, which is what holds a tall format true on the wall.

A tall canvas anchors a narrow stretch of wall — beside a stairwell, above an entry table, or alongside a slim cabinet. Centre the canvas at standing eye level (around 150 cm above the floor); a vertical wants air on both sides. The atmospheric character of Lit Horizon 2 prefers a wall that has a single focal piece rather than a grid.

Available sizes: extra large. Pick the size to the wall, not the wall to the size. View Lit Horizon 2 from about twice the canvas height back; that is the distance at which the surface settles.
