Description “Gilded Cascade 2”

The whole left side of the canvas is built from one decisive gesture: a wide, stiff bristle brush loaded with cool white and pale gray and pulled top to bottom in long combed strokes. The bristles have left a dense pattern of vertical grooves, the kind you might see on freshly hand-troweled plaster, and the paint stands a few millimeters off the canvas where two passes overlap. From a step away the surface reads as a single calm column of light; up close it becomes a forest of tiny ridges.

The right side of the picture works in a different language. Here a stack of warm metallic gold rectangles has been laid down with the flat of a wide knife, each rectangle a single confident stroke with crisp edges and a slightly raised lip. Cooler steel-blue and charcoal slabs are interleaved with the gold, the seams between strokes left visible so the column reads almost like a hand-built mosaic. A few drips of warm gold and rust ease the column down into the lower edge.

Where the two halves meet, the artist has scraped some of the gold into the soft gray, mixing the metals into the cool field so the join doesn't sit as a hard line but as a passage of broken light. Tiny flecks of cobalt and warm ochre punctuate the central seam, applied last with a near-dry brush. Black hairline drips at the lower right give the column its sense of slow, controlled fall.

The picture is built for verticality. It works on a tall narrow wall — a stairwell, a long hallway, a panel beside a tall window — and it lifts rooms that lean modern and a little luxe: a master bedroom with brass and stone, a dining room with leather and oak, a salon, or a small boutique inn entry where guests will read the picture from across the room and again, more slowly, up close.

Created by hand for collectors, this canvas joins our original-style abstract art line.

Additional Information “Gilded Cascade 2”

The whole left side of the canvas is built from one decisive gesture: a wide, stiff bristle brush loaded with cool white and pale gray and pulled top to bottom in long combed strokes. Visual cues include brushstrokes, gold leaf, and layers.

The palette is anchored by blue, gold, and gray. The composition is vertical.

Gilded Cascade 2 sits well in a bedroom or a dining room. Beauty salon and boutique hotel settings are also a strong fit.

It pairs with abstract expressionism and atmospheric interiors more naturally than ornate ones. A vertical hang reads well above a sideboard or a narrow console.

Color-wise, the piece works with blue, gold, gray, and white. The cool register keeps the work quiet; nothing pushes forward more than the rest.

Oil on stretched canvas, brought up by a single painter in continuous sittings. Layers of oil build up over the underpainting, so the surface carries visible weight and the brushwork stays legible.

The abstract expressionism character runs through the underpainting, while the atmospheric feel emerges in the surface passes. Gilded Cascade 2 is finished with the traditional drying and varnishing cycle; the stretcher is keyed evenly to keep the canvas flat in shipping. The vertical stretch keys the canvas tighter at the long edges, which is what holds a tall format true on the wall.

A tall canvas anchors a narrow stretch of wall — beside a stairwell, above an entry table, or alongside a slim cabinet. Centre the canvas at standing eye level (around 150 cm above the floor); a vertical wants air on both sides. The abstract expressionism character of Gilded Cascade 2 prefers a wall that has a single focal piece rather than a grid.

Available sizes: oversized. Pick the size to the wall, not the wall to the size. View Gilded Cascade 2 from about twice the canvas height back; that is the distance at which the surface settles.
