Explosive Laughter

Bold, chaotic, and irresistibly playful, Explosive Laughter transforms the canvas into a carnival of color and expression. Bursting splashes of blue, yellow, pink, and green erupt like fireworks, framing cartoon-like faces with wide eyes and exaggerated grins.

Visual cues include cartoon faces, color bursts, and drips. The palette is anchored by black, blue, and green. The composition is square.

Explosive Laughter sits well in a bathroom or a hallway. Bar and café settings are also a strong fit.

It pairs with abstract expressionism and pop art interiors more naturally than ornate ones. A square format centres a wall cleanly when the furniture below is symmetrical.

Most of the surface is given over to black, blue, green, pink, and red. The cool register keeps the work quiet; nothing pushes forward more than the rest.

Painted by hand in oil on stretched canvas by a single painter. Layers of oil build up over the underpainting, so the surface carries visible weight and the brushwork stays legible.

The abstract expressionism character runs through the underpainting, while the pop art feel emerges in the surface passes. Explosive Laughter is finished with the traditional drying and varnishing cycle; the stretcher is keyed evenly to keep the canvas flat in shipping. The square stretch is keyed evenly on all four sides, which is the format that holds tension most predictably.

A square canvas centres a wall cleanly and is the easiest format to pair with symmetrical furniture below. A square wants equal breathing space on all four sides; the centre of the canvas wants to sit around 150 cm above the floor.

The abstract expressionism character of Explosive Laughter prefers a wall that has a single focal piece rather than a grid. View Explosive Laughter from about twice the canvas height back; that is the distance at which the surface settles.
