Description “Curtain of Light 2”

The temperature contrast does the storytelling here. Warm rust, ochre and burnt orange tower on either side of this hand-painted oil painting on canvas, while a luminous turquoise-blue canyon of sky pours down the center and pools as wet reflection in the street below.

The mood is dreamlike and a little nostalgic. Saturated reds and golds in the side walls give the picture its weight; the cool teal corridor opens it up and gives the eye somewhere to escape; the wine-colored smudges in the foreground read as people, taillights or simply spilled color. The whole image works because it never resolves into a literal city — it stays in the language of mood.

Hung in a room, it asks for company that holds its warmth. Off-white, warm-gray or deep navy walls all suit; mid-walnut, tan leather, oxblood velvet and brushed brass extend the after-rain warmth. It is a strong vertical statement above a sideboard, in a hallway or beside a fireplace, and lifts living rooms, home offices, bedrooms, boutique hotels, restaurants and reception areas that lean atmospheric.

Surface and material confirm the hand. Heavy palette-knife slabs build the rust walls; the central blue is laid in thinner dragged passages; pigments drip and meet at the lower edge. As a textured oil painting on canvas it reads softer at distance and almost architectural up close.

Hand-painted on canvas, it joins our wider range of hand-painted abstract painting.

Additional Information “Curtain of Light 2”

The temperature contrast does the storytelling here. Warm rust, ochre and burnt orange tower on either side of this hand-painted oil painting on canvas, while a luminous turquoise-blue canyon of sky pours down the center and pools as wet reflection in the street below.

Visual cues include brushstrokes, buildings, and abstract. The palette is anchored by blue, brown, and orange. The composition is vertical.

The abstract expressionism character makes Curtain of Light 2 a natural fit for a bedroom. It also shows well in a hallway and home office.

In commercial spaces, it suits boutique hotel and hotel. A vertical hang reads well above a sideboard or a narrow console.

Most of the surface is given over to blue, brown, orange, teal, and white. A cool atmosphere holds the surface together — the piece feels collected rather than charged.

The painter works in oil on stretched canvas, with no division of labour between sketch and finish. Layers of oil build up over the underpainting, so the surface carries visible weight and the brushwork stays legible.

The abstract expressionism character runs through the underpainting, while the brushstrokes feel emerges in the surface passes. The painter closes the cycle on Curtain of Light 2 with standard drying times and a clear final varnish, so the work is built to age well. The vertical stretch keys the canvas tighter at the long edges, which is what holds a tall format true on the wall.

Hang a vertical canvas where the wall itself is taller than it is wide; the format leans into that proportion. Leave 30 cm or more of wall on each side; the work asks for room to breathe vertically as well as horizontally. Curtain of Light 2 suits a bedroom that is built around one piece rather than a collection.

Available sizes: custom, huge, mini. Pick the size to the wall, not the wall to the size. For Curtain of Light 2, step back twice the canvas height once it’s hung — the brushwork resolves at that distance.
