Description “Blossom Moon II”

The first thing the eye does here is climb. A massive cream-and-orange moon takes the top half of the canvas, its surface scrawled with rust and salmon cloud-shapes that look like a continent painted onto a sphere. Below it, a range of jagged cobalt-and-ivory peaks rolls across the middle distance, every plane blocked in heavy palette-knife slabs. Branches of plum blossom curl in from both sides, their petals dotted in deep red and warm peach.

The composition is decorative on purpose, almost theatrical. The moon, the mountain spine and the blossoms work as three layered color zones — warm above, cool through the middle, hot pink-red on the flanks. The eye reads up the canyon, across the peaks, then climbs the blossoming branches into the moon. Rhythm is bold, graphic and unmistakably contemporary in handling, even though the visual language pulls from East Asian woodblock landscapes.

Color is saturated but disciplined: cobalt, steel blue and ivory in the rock; warm cream, peach and rust in the moon; a hot pink-and-crimson accent in the petals. Up close the surface holds real depth — chunky palette-knife planes in the mountains, raised cloud-shapes on the moon, blossom-petals lifted in tabs of paint thick enough to throw a real shadow.

This kind of bold landscape reads well in modern interiors that already lean a little eclectic — above a low credenza in a dining room, on the wall of a wellness or spa space, behind a linen sofa in a contemporary living room, or as the single tall piece in an entry hallway. A picture light from above brings the moon and the petals into full relief and lets the painting glow at night.

Hand-painted on canvas, it joins our wider range of abstract canvas art.

Additional Information “Blossom Moon II”

The first thing the eye does here is climb. A massive cream-and-orange moon takes the top half of the canvas, its surface scrawled with rust and salmon cloud-shapes that look like a continent painted onto a sphere.

Visual cues include branches, flowers, and mountains. The palette is anchored by blue, orange, and pink. The composition is vertical.

Best suited for a bedroom, dining room, and hallway. Works well in boutique hotel and hotel.

Pairs naturally with impasto and landscape interiors. A vertical hang reads well above a sideboard or a narrow console.

Color-wise, the piece works with blue, orange, pink, red, and white. The palette balances warm and cool registers, holding tension without falling on one side.

Each canvas is laid in by one painter from start to finish, in oil on stretched cotton. Layers of oil build up over the underpainting, so the surface carries visible weight and the brushwork stays legible.

The impasto character runs through the underpainting, while the landscape feel emerges in the surface passes. For Blossom Moon II, drying and varnishing follow the traditional oil-painting cycle so the finished surface holds without yellowing. The vertical stretch keys the canvas tighter at the long edges, which is what holds a tall format true on the wall.

Vertical formats sit best on tall, narrow walls: between two windows, framing a doorway, or above a slim hall console. Hang the centre about 145-155 cm above the floor, with at least 30 cm of clear wall on either side. In a bedroom, Blossom Moon II reads best on the wall you look at first when entering.

Available sizes: mini. Pick the size to the wall, not the wall to the size. Step back to roughly twice the canvas height to take Blossom Moon II in — that is the distance the painter worked at.
